ABOUT US
The Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis, or CAMi, is a cultural campus collaged from our city’s industrial and agricultural past and focused on the future. Located just south of Downtown Indianapolis in the heart of a historic neighborhood and cultural district, CAMi is anchored by a newly renovated 40,000-square-foot former industrial building transformed into a contemporary art museum and community hub.
CAMi is a commissioning and non-collecting institution. The campus consists of the CAMi main building, the Tube Gallery (formerly Tube Factory artspace), 18 homes for long-term and visiting resident artists, and a public greenspace and art park — which includes an amphitheater and The Chicken Chapel of Love, among other features. The CAMi campus is owned and operated by the 501c3 arts nonprofit, Big Car Collaborative.
Some top goals of CAMi
Provide a welcoming cultural destination for local, regional, and national visitors
Approach arts from a holistic lens — including visual, performing, culinary, literary
Support local, regional, national, and international artists of all genres
Make regional economic impact by supporting arts entrepreneurs and orgs
Encourage social connectivity between people of all backgrounds
Provide a restorative space that supports mental and physical wellbeing
Be good stewards of the natural world and environment on campus and beyond
Share and preserve the history and stories of our place and community
Preserve the block as a long-term, non-profit owned home for art and artists
At CAMi, we curate on the themes of community, memory and mythology. We host community and cultural programs at our campus of adaptive reuse buildings and public greenspace with the objectives of promoting social connectivity, cooperation, and creativity.
We also operate an arts-centric, experimental radio station, WQRT 99.1 FM — streaming at wqrt.org and based on the campus. And the Tube building is our home base of operations for Big Car’s Spark Placemaking program.
